The Sony Play Station 3 is set to hit stores in North America on November 17, 2006. It's expected that most stores will sell out within minutes of opening on that date. One reason is because each retail store will be allocated a small number of Play Station 3 units, and when they're gone, they're gone. Another reason for the expected sell-out is the popularity of the pre-order program. Many game enthusiasts are now paying over $1,000 to obtain a pre-ordered Ps3. Pre-orders at EB Games and GameStop were sold out in minutes. Wal-Mart is not yet offering the pre-order option.

If you're unfamiliar with the Play Station 3, then you may not understand what all the fuss is about. For starters, the Ps3 improves on the already great graphics and gaming capabilities of the PlayStation 2. The Ps3 will be available in two different configurations, the 20GB model and the 60GB model. You might be wondering what the difference is. Both come with Blu-Ray Disc technology, Bluetooth, four USB ports, and the Cell Broadband Engine. However the 60 GB model also comes with slots for a Memory Stick, SD and Compact Flash, Wi-Fi and a larger hard drive.

Hook your Ps3 up to your computer for amazing interaction and fun chat, as well as the option to download lots of great games. Thanks to the incredible bluetooth technology, the Ps3 can support up to seven wireless controllers.

If you're looking for a Sony Play Station 3 for yourself or to give as a gift, there are two options currently available to you. You can pre-order (currently pre-orders are being taken on Ebay and bids are reaching in excess of $1,000,) or you can arrive early at a retailer in your area and try to snatch up one of the few available models there. Another option, of course, is to wait. Eventually the buzz will die down and there will be more units available. Not only that, but as more advanced game systems come out, people will be selling their used Play Station 3 models to fund their next purchase.
